Clowns Can Be Sad Too

The Watchmen clip above has been going around social media lately, and it’s relevant right now because it’s message is clear and simple: who do those who make others happy turn to for their own happiness?

Not going to lie, the news about Robin Williams has really shaken me. Like a lot of people, I grew up watching his films- Jumanji, Aladdin, Bicentennial Man, Mrs Doubtfire and Hook to name a few- and the world has really lost a gem. I’m even more heartbroken by the fact that he chose to end his own life after a long battle with alcoholism and depression. I guess this shows that outward appearances can be deceiving; Robin Williams was a man who brought laughter to so many around the world, but he too had his inner demons.

I just can’t comprehend how someone can be so low that they feel suicide is their only option, but sadly, this is the reality for many people. Mental illness is the elephant in the room that is ignored a lot, and this angers me because just because you can’t see anything physically doesn’t mean there isn’t something wrong. Robin Williams’ death is really tragic, but maybe it’ll make people more aware of that big elephant, because it’s been trumpeting for a while and deserves our attention.
