Who Am I?

Tai Rachel. 22 year old follower of Jesus. Currently studying medicine in the United Kingdom. This blog will chronicle my road to becoming a doctor and everything else along the way. Not the most reliable person, but hopefully having a blog will teach me important lessons on focus and dedication, as I mature and grow as a person… or something like that.medschool

  1. Hey Tai, my name is Jessie J and I live in the US. I didn’t know you could go to medical school at 18 in the UK! Please explain!
Here, you have to do four years of undergraduate college, while fulfilling pre-medical requirements, and then attend four years of medical school, so people usually don’t enter med school until their mid-twenties. Maybe I should move to the UK.

    • Hello! First of thanks for taking time to comment and read my blog πŸ™‚ Yeah I was surprised when I found out about how different things are in the US because in the UK, you can go straight from A-Levels (equivalent of SATs I think) to medical school.
There are certain A-Levels you HAVE to take for your medicine application to be considered. Chemistry is a must and Biology is depending on what school you apply to. Some people also do Maths and/or Physics, and an additional subject, as you can do between 3 and 5 A-Levels.
Most medicine courses here are 5 years but schools like Cambridge, Oxford and UCL have an extra year for intercalated degrees. If you’re on a foundation year like I am, your course is 6 years πŸ™‚
Hope that waffling made some sense!

  2. Hey Tai,
Just wanted to say that I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts. I’m about to start med school in the US, and I hope I can approach it with as good a sense of humor as you have πŸ™‚

    • That has genuinely made my day, thank you so much! And all the best of luck with starting med school, you’ll have a blast! πŸ™‚
